Eligibility/Qualification:
- Holds an MSc degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Interested in researching and developing novel 3D algorithms for point cloud analysis in fruit tree farming and orchard phenotyping.
- Able to work independently and willing to gather field data.
- Proficient in developing software algorithms in Python/C++, Pytorch/Tensorflow.
- Proficient verbal and written English communicator.
Preferences:
- Experience with 3D skeletonization techniques or LiDAR-generated point clouds.
- Experience with edge computing devices/libraries, such as NVIDIA Jetson, TensorRT, ONNX.
- Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) or ROS2.
- Experience with academic reporting or publishing.
Job Description:
PhD Position in 3D Point Cloud Analysis for Smart Orchard Applications
The selected PhD student will be involved in researching and developing innovative 3D algorithms for point cloud analysis in fruit tree farming and orchard phenotyping. The work is part of an international collaboration, contributing to the development of a robot for autonomous pruning in fruit tree farming. The student will receive a stipend comparable to the Japanese government’s (MEXT) scholarship, and additional funds can be facilitated by the Field Phenomics Lab. The start date is negotiable from April to October 2024.
