PhD Position in Chemistry: The Department of Chemistry at Umeå University announces a PhD position specializing in structural biology, focusing on the assembly mechanisms of human pathogenic viruses. The position offers a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research using cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and various biochemical and biophysical assays. The application deadline is 3rd June 2024, with the starting date to be determined.
PhD Position in Chemistry: Structural Biology of Viruses
Summary Table:
Call Opens | Call Closes | Proposed Start Date |
---|---|---|
Not Applicable | 3rd June 2024 | According to Agreement |
Study Area: Structural biology of viruses.
Scholarship Description: The PhD candidate will delve into the assembly mechanisms of viruses from the Pneumoviridae family, which are a leading cause of acute lower respiratory infections in children. Using state-of-the-art cryo-EM and biophysical techniques, the student will investigate multi-component complexes involved in virus assembly. The project aims to elucidate the molecular steps of assembly and contribute to the development of therapeutic interventions.
Eligibility: Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- Hold a second-cycle level degree or equivalent with at least 240 ECTS credits, including 60 ECTS credits at the second-cycle level or equivalent.
- Completed first-cycle courses of at least 90 ECTS credits in chemistry or a related field.
- Experience in infection biology, biochemistry, and structural biology.
- Proficiency in English.
Required Documents: Candidates should submit the following documents:
- Personal letter detailing their motivation and relevant qualifications (up to 2 pages)
- Curriculum vitae
- Copies of degree certificates, diplomas, and academic transcripts
- Copies of relevant publications or theses (up to 5)
- Contact information for at least two references
How to Apply: Applications must be submitted through the university’s e-recruitment system, Varbi, by the deadline of 3rd June 2024.
