Eligibility/Qualification:
- Completed MSc degree in bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, applied mathematics, or related field
- Proficiency in programming, particularly Python
- Experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis and comparative genomics, or strong interest to develop these skills
- Aptitude for developing mathematical models and applying them to genomic data
- Passion for microbial evolution and viruses, with a quantitative mindset
- Proactive attitude, teamwork skills, and commitment to pursuing a PhD
- Proficiency in English, certification of English skills required

Job Description:
The PhD candidate will:
- Analyze public phage genome and metagenome data to estimate phage diversity
- Develop bioinformatics pipelines for data analysis
- Formulate mathematical and computational models of phage evolution
- Identify factors influencing phage diversity across different environments
- Collaborate with supervisors in the Bioinformatics Group and Laboratory of Genetics
- Engage in scientific networking opportunities within and outside Wageningen University
