PhD Position in Computational Modelling: Wageningen University & Research is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in Computational Modelling and Digital Twins. The successful candidate will be part of the EU-funded projects “BIOS” and “Bioindustry 4.0,” contributing to the development of research infrastructures for smart biomanufacturing. This interdisciplinary role involves creating Digital Twins, developing genome scale models, and mining biological resources to deepen our understanding of metabolic processes in biomanufacturing.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Successfully completed MSc degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, or a relevant field.
- Proficiency in computational modeling, with experience in Python and R.
- Knowledge of advanced statistics and machine learning methods.
- Familiarity with query languages such as SPARQL is a plus.
- Familiarity with dynamic or constraint-based metabolic modeling is a plus.
- English language proficiency at C1 level.

- Creating a Digital Twin replicating cellular processes and bioproduction mechanisms.
- Developing, expanding, and adapting genome scale models of metabolism using empirical data.
- Mining biological resources and combining them with existing data for pathway discovery.
- Collaborating with experimental PhDs to inform and validate computational models.
- Publishing research findings in leading international academic journals.
- Communicating effectively across disciplines, project partners, and stakeholders.
- Involvement in the supervision of MSc and BSc students within the project framework.
