PhD Position in Computational Plant Biology: Wageningen University & Research is offering a PhD position focused on the mathematical modeling of stress patterns in plant tissues. This research aims to understand how mechanical forces affect plant growth and biological processes like seed germination and pathogen invasion.
Designation
PhD Candidate in Computational Plant Biology
Research Area
- Mechanical Modeling
- Plant Tissue Response
- Interdisciplinary Mechanobiology
Location
Wageningen University & Research, Wageningen, Netherlands
Eligibility / Qualification
To qualify for this position, candidates must have:
- An MSc degree in computational (bio)physics, theoretical biology, applied mathematics, theoretical soft matter science, or a related discipline.
- Experience in numerical modeling (finite elements or particle-based simulations).
- Programming skills.
- A keen interest in collaborating with plant cell biologists.
- The ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Willingness to teach MSc and BSc students.
- Proficiency in English at a C1 level or equivalent.
Description
The PhD project employs a multi-scale approach to develop models that assess the evolution of mechanical stress in plant tissues during growth and its implications for various biological processes. This position will involve collaboration with experimentalists and fellow PhD students, emphasizing skills in interdisciplinary research and effective communication across different scientific backgrounds. As part of the Gravitation programme GreenTE, you will work within a vibrant community that explores plant mechanobiology.
