Eligibility/Qualification
- Must hold (or expect to obtain by June 2026) a M.Sc. degree in a relevant field.
- Strong interest in Evolutionary and Conservation Genomics.
- Experience in molecular laboratory work, preferably with aDNA techniques.
- Strong English language, communication, and organizational skills.
- Previous experience in conservation genomics, museomics, and/or aDNA analyses is an advantage but not required.
Description
The successful candidate will work in the ancient DNA (aDNA) laboratory, focusing on:
- Extracting DNA and sequencing genomes from available specimens.
- Quantifying dynamics of genomic erosion over time using bioinformatic tools.
- Engaging in both wet-lab research and statistical/population genomic analyses of ancient and contemporary samples.
- Collaborating closely with experts in evolutionary genomics and archaeogenetics.
The PhD student will gain extensive experience in handling historical and ancient samples and in large-scale genomic analyses, alongside museum-based work for additional material collection.
