PhD Position in Ecology: The University of Göttingen is offering a PhD position in the field of arthropod diversity and ecosystem functioning within the climate future lab “DIVERSA.” The successful candidate will conduct ecological research on biodiversity, trophic interactions, and ecosystem functioning, with a focus on understanding how forest disturbance regimes affect dynamics of arthropod diversity and ecosystem functions in the new climate future lab.

Research Area:
The PhD position is part of the subproject “Dynamics of arthropod diversity and ecosystem functioning”, focusing on the effects of forest disturbance regimes on moth communities and associated ecosystem functions at local and regional scales.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, or a related discipline
  • Profound knowledge in terrestrial animal ecology/entomology and ecosystem functioning research
  • Good zoological species knowledge and experience in the identification of arthropods (ideally moths)
  • Excellent knowledge of ecological statistics, preferably in R
  • High motivation to work and communicate in an interdisciplinary research team
  • Willingness to undertake extensive field work in north-western Germany
  • Relevant language skills in German and English
  • Driving license class B

Job Description:
The successful candidate is expected to coordinate and execute field work, including moth sampling, predation experiments, and herbivory assessments in forests in north-west Germany. Additionally, tasks include moth identification, measurements of functional traits, preparing research results for publication, presenting at scientific conferences, and collaborating with other subprojects within DIVERSA.
