Eligibility/Qualification

  • MSc or equivalent degree in a relevant field
  • Fundamental knowledge of maritime structures in waves
  • Familiarity with fiber-reinforced composite materials and structures
  • Good mathematical skills with experience in numerical methods for structures and/or fluids
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Matlab, Python)
  • Excellent spoken and written English (minimum TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS of 7.0)

Description

The PhD position involves an in-depth investigation of slamming loads and their effects on fiber-reinforced composite hulls and superstructures. The research will focus on developing methodologies for monitoring structural integrity using onboard or embedded sensor systems and assessing micro- and macro-damage due to extreme loading conditions. Collaboration with industrial partners and fellow PhD researchers is expected.
