Eligibility/Qualification

  • A completed MSc degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g., Animal or Plant breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Population or Statistical Genetics).
  • Familiarity with quantitative genetics concepts and data analysis.
  • Programming experience in Python, Fortran, Linux, or similar software.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills in English (C1 level).
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Description

The PhD candidate will work on the NWO-AES project “Genetic variance Estimation Now (GEN)”. The project aims to develop and validate a method to estimate genetic variance in populations under selection, applicable to commercial pig and chicken populations. Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up simulations to understand factors influencing genetic variance changes.
  • Collaborating with a postdoctoral researcher and industry partners.
  • Applying a new method for genetic variance estimation and analyzing datasets.
  • Presenting findings at international conferences and supporting method dissemination.
