Summary
The University of Tübingen invites applications for a PhD position in Genome Engineering and Host-Pathogen Interactions within the Link Lab, part of the Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections” (CMFI). This position is available for a period of three years and will focus on identifying bacterial genes that control immune evasion in ESKAPE pathogens. The project uses CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) libraries and involves high-throughput immune assays and metabolomic profiling to discover novel therapeutic targets.

Job Description
The PhD project will focus on systematically identifying bacterial genes involved in immune evasion in ESKAPE pathogens using CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) libraries. The candidate will collaborate with the Mager Lab in immunology and will be responsible for constructing and screening CRISPRi libraries in E. coli and S. aureus, followed by metabolomic and chemical characterization of bacterial mutants. The research will include high-throughput dendritic cell reporter assays for immune activation. The position involves manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and active collaboration within an interdisciplinary team of microbiologists and immunologists.
