PhD Position in Greenhouse Gas, University of Hamburg, Germany

Postdoc in Germany
PhD Position in Greenhouse Gas: The University of Hamburg is offering a PhD position for the project “COLDSPOT – Arctic Greenhouse Gas Sinks: Exploring Coldspots of Methane and Nitrous Oxide in the Permafrost Domain.” This project aims to investigate Arctic areas that act as sinks for the greenhouse gases methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), contributing significantly to climate change.

Description

The COLDSPOT project focuses on understanding the mechanisms that allow specific Arctic sites to act as sinks for greenhouse gases. As the Arctic experiences significant warming, studying its unique biogeochemical processes is vital to understanding its role in the global climate system. The chosen candidate will engage in field measurements, laboratory experiments, and microbial analyses, and will actively participate in collaboration with experts from associated research institutions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct field expeditions and lab experiments on greenhouse gas dynamics.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members and project partners.
  • Present scientific results at conferences and publish research findings in scientific journals.
  • Contribute to the research environment through participation in graduate school activities.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their applications using the online application form, including the following documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) with contact details for two references
  • Copies of degree certificates
  • List of publications (if any)
