Eligibility/Qualification
- Educational Background: Master’s degree (MSc) in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or related fields.
- Skills: Strong interest in conservation science, ecology, and environmental management. Familiarity with alpine habitats, taxonomic groups, advanced statistical techniques, or spatial tools (GIS analyses) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Language Proficiency: Good command of English; knowledge of French and/or German is favorable.
Description
The PhD student will engage in ongoing research concerning Swiss proglacial ecosystems, focusing on:
- Evaluating biodiversity responses post-glacier retreat.
- Assessing synergies and trade-offs of conservation alongside human usage in these areas.
Current project developments target:
- Local scale: Assessing arthropod diversity influenced by microclimatic conditions.
- Regional scale: Mapping current and future plant species distributions and evaluating ecosystem services.
The position encourages collaboration with related projects at the University of Bern and Milan and offers co-supervision by Prof. Gianalberto Losapio from the University of Milan.
