Scholarship / Position Description

The successful candidate will join an internationally renowned research environment embedded within Forschungszentrum Jülich, the University of Bonn, the Cluster of Excellence “Color meets Flavor” (CmF), and the Collaborative Research Centre CRC NuMeriQS.

Key responsibilities and project features include:

  • Performing advanced numerical simulations of lattice quantum field theory.
  • Developing, optimizing, and maintaining analysis methods, scientific tools, and simulation software.
  • Analyzing research data, publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and delivering presentations at international conferences.
  • Utilizing discretionary access to top-tier HPC architectures, including the JUWELS supercomputer and the upcoming exascale system JUPITER.
  • Collaborating closely with local and international members of the Cluster “Color meets Flavor” and participating in fully funded extended international research visits.

Eligibility / Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Education: A completed Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related field.
  • Core Knowledge: Strong theoretical background in lattice quantum field theory.
  • Technical Skills: Proven programming experience, particularly in C, C++, or Python, alongside familiarity with Linux operating systems and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English skills (at least B2 level according to the CEFR standard). Knowledge of the German language is not required (free on-site language courses are provided).
  • Soft Skills: A structured, systematic working style with the ability to integrate into an international, collaborative research team.
