Research Area
The research will focus on integrating multi-source biodiversity data to reconstruct food web interactions in marine ecosystems.
Location
Wageningen University & Research, with fieldwork conducted in the North Sea and Lake Veere.
Eligibility/Qualification
- Completed MSc degree in marine biology, ecology, environmental sciences, or a related field.
- Strong interest in coastal ecology and biodiversity monitoring.
- Excellent English communication skills (C1 level).
- Experience with molecular techniques (e.g., eDNA metabarcoding) is advantageous.
- Willingness to conduct fieldwork at sea and undergo safety at sea training.
Description
As a PhD candidate, you will:
- Investigate integration of biodiversity data (imaging, acoustics, eDNA) to reconstruct marine food webs.
- Perform ecological fieldwork using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and various sampling tools.
- Conduct laboratory analyses (e.g., stable isotope analysis, eDNA metabarcoding).
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
- Contribute to a collaborative research culture and mentor BSc/MSc students.
