Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A Master’s degree (MSc) in marine microbiology, ecology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Previous experience or affinity with experimental research, culturing microorganisms, chemostats, basic virology, phytoplankton ecophysiology, and/or field research is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in programming software such as R, Python, or Matlab.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, particularly in scientific writing.
  • A motivated and collaborative personality.

Job Description:

The PhD candidate will:

  • Conduct chemostat experiments to study the effects of viral infections on phytoplankton functional traits and stoichiometry.
  • Analyze the impact of viral infections on competition between different phytoplankton species.
  • Collaborate closely with the project team, participate in two scientific cruises, and supervise MSc students interested in marine phytoplankton virus ecology.
  • Prepare and present research findings at conferences and publish in international journals.
  • Aim to complete the PhD thesis within four years.
