Designation:
PhD Student Position

Research Area:
Mitochondrial Inner Membrane Remodeling

Location:
Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, or closely related fields of natural sciences.
  • Practical experience in laboratory work and basic cell biological, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Previous experience in confocal and other advanced imaging techniques and image analysis tools is beneficial.
  • Very good proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Passion for science and motivation to work in an innovative and challenging international team.

Job Description:
The selected PhD candidate will investigate mechanisms regulating mitochondrial inner membrane remodeling using mammalian cell lines. The study aims to understand how mitochondrial cristae, critical for ATP production and cellular function, dynamically change and contribute to various diseases such as Parkinson’s, mitochondrial encephalopathy, optic atrophy, cardiomyopathy, and diabetes. The research will employ state-of-the-art super-resolution nanoscopy, confocal and electron microscopy/tomography, gene-editing, and biochemical techniques.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit the following documents as a single PDF file:

  • A brief cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Relevant academic transcripts
  • A letter of motivation describing their interest in the project

Applications should be emailed to Dr. Arun Kumar Kondadi at kondadi@hhu.de with the subject line ‘Foko Application Kondadi’.
