Research Area

High-Throughput Microanalysis of Recycled Aluminium focusing on tramp elements and their impact on aluminium mega-castings.

Location

Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree (120 credits) or equivalent in Materials Science, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Documented experience in advanced microstructure characterization and metallic materials.
  • Interest in machine learning.
  • For international applicants: a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is acceptable.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with cast aluminium and electron microscopy.

Description

As a PhD student, you will:

  • Develop and apply advanced microanalytical techniques to characterise recycled aluminium alloys.
  • Investigate how tramp elements affect microstructure and properties of recycled aluminium.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team specializing in computational mechanics, computer vision, and machine learning.
  • Present findings in scientific journals and at international conferences.
  • Involve in teaching at Chalmers’ undergraduate level for up to 20% of working hours.

Contract Terms

  • Fully funded for four years; the position can extend to five years if teaching is included.
  • Starting salary: 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).
