Eligibility/Qualification:
- A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Ecology, Microbiology, or a closely related discipline with a focus on plants, soils, or microbiology.
- Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Proficiency in numerical and statistical analysis.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA and RNA) is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- A valid driving license is required for fieldwork.
Job Description:
The PhD project investigates how forest vegetation structure influences macro- and microclimatic decoupling and its subsequent effects on ecosystem carbon cycling. The successful candidate will:
- Conduct field studies on the influence of forest structure on climatic gradients.
- Analyze how microclimates, plant diversity, and soil properties drive carbon cycling.
- Design and execute climate experiments in laboratory settings.
- Utilize advanced DNA- and RNA-based methods, including transcriptomics, to examine microbial community composition and functions.
- Collaborate with a network of researchers across Swedish ecosystems.
- Develop independent research ideas within forest microbial ecology.
