PhD Position in Microbiome Metagenomics: Aarhus University invites applications for a PhD fellowship within the Environmental Science programme at the Graduate School of Technical Sciences. The successful candidate will engage in innovative research focused on groundwater microbiomes and bioremediation strategies, particularly utilizing metagenomics and metatranscriptomics. This position is part of the EMBARQ project, funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A Master’s degree in Environmental Microbiology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing techniques and/or bioinformatics tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Job Description

The PhD project will focus on:

  • Conducting metagenomic/metatranscriptomic sequencing and bioinformatic analysis of groundwater samples.
  • Characterizing microbial communities in groundwater and identifying functional genes related to bioremediation.
  • Evaluating risks associated with using biodegradation cultures for chlorinated ethenes degradation.
  • Collaborating with a diverse team of scientists and researchers in related fields.
