Research Area
The research will explore indoor and occupational exposure to microplastics, employing a multidisciplinary approach encompassing environmental exposure assessment, analytical chemistry, behavioral science, and stakeholder engagement.
Location
Utrecht Science Park, Utrecht, Netherlands, with research conducted at Utrecht University and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO).
Eligibility/Qualification
- A Master’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Strong interest in environmental health and analytical techniques.
- Experience with laboratory work and familiarity with spectroscopy or chromatography methods.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication skills in English (knowledge of Dutch is an advantage).
Description
The PhD position entails:
- Conducting indoor air measurements in residential and workplace settings.
- Utilizing active air-sampling setups for microplastic collection.
- Analyzing samples with advanced techniques (TED-GC/MS, SEM-EDX, µ-FTIR).
- Processing complex datasets to identify exposure patterns.
- Designing and evaluating intervention strategies.
- Publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
