PhD Position in Molecular Biology: Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany

Postdoc in Germany

PhD Position in Molecular Biology: Join our dynamic research team at the Ustun Lab to explore the role of processing bodies (PBs) in host-bacteria interactions. This PhD position offers an exciting opportunity to delve into the molecular mechanisms underlying protein homeostasis and translational control during stress conditions and infection. Through cutting-edge research techniques and interdisciplinary approaches, you’ll contribute to advancing our understanding of plant-microbe interactions and protein regulation.

PhD Position in Molecular Biology: Investigating Processing Bodies in Plant-Microbe Interactions

Study Area: Molecular Biology, Plant-Microbe Interactions

Location: Ustun Lab, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification: We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate with a background in molecular biology or biochemistry. While experience with plant-microbe interactions and Arabidopsis is advantageous, it is not mandatory. Candidates must hold a master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Excellent English communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential.

Description: At the Ustun Lab, our research focuses on understanding how environmental stimuli influence protein homeostasis in eukaryotes. We investigate the role of processing bodies (PBs), dynamic ribonucleoprotein aggregates, in mediating translational repression during stress and infection. Through a combination of state-of-the-art techniques, including proximity-labelling and single-cell RNA sequencing, we aim to characterize new PB components involved in plant-microbe interactions and elucidate the mechanisms by which bacteria manipulate translation through PBs.

Key Objectives:

  1. Characterize new PB components implicated in plant-microbe interactions.
  2. Investigate the recycling of PB components during infection.
  3. Analyze Type III effector proteins that modulate PBs and translation.

How to Apply: To apply, please submit a composite PDF file in English, including:

  • A letter of motivation detailing your research interests and how this project aligns with your career goals.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV) highlighting your academic and research experiences.
  • Names and contact information of at least two referees. Applications should be sent via email to: suayb.uestuen@rub.de

Last Date: The reviewing of applications will commence immediately, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected. Applicants are encouraged to submit their materials by June 17, 2024.

We look forward to receiving applications from enthusiastic candidates eager to contribute to our innovative and collaborative research environment. For more information about our lab, please visit: http://theustunlab.com/
