PhD Position in Molecular Pharmaceutics: Uppsala University’s Department of Pharmacy is offering a stimulating opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual to join as a PhD student in the field of Molecular Pharmaceutics. This position provides the chance to work within an interdisciplinary and internationally prominent research environment, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in pharmaceutical science.
Designation: PhD Student in Molecular Pharmaceutics
Research Area:
The PhD student will be involved in the development of advanced small-scale models of the gastrointestinal tract aimed at establishing methods and technologies for absorption profiling of orally administered drugs. The research will incorporate diverse areas such as computational modeling, in vitro ADME models, development of biological medicines, and patient and societal aspects in pharmaceutical science.
Location: Uppsala, Sweden
Eligibility/Qualification:
To qualify for this position, candidates must hold a Master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, chemistry, or a related discipline, with at least 240 credits in higher education, including 60 credits at the Master’s level. Alternatively, candidates must have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. Proficiency in English, experience in modeling and simulation, machine learning/AI, high-performance computing, and programming is valuable. Personal suitability, motivation, and the ability to independently conduct research studies are also essential.
Job Description:
The PhD student will primarily focus on their research studies. The project involves the development of systems with physiologically relevant surface area to volume ratio and hydrodynamics for the respective gastrointestinal tract. This includes using humanized cells to better represent the epithelium of each segment, considering expression of transporters and mucus secretion, and incorporating the microbiome in the segment mimicking the colon. The obtained data will be used for in silico modeling, and the systems will be validated with formulations and diagnostic tools where human in vivo data are available.
