PhD Position in Nanomaterials (Photo)Synthesis: A fully funded PhD position is available at the Graduate School of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Biological and Chemical Engineering programme. The position, starting from April 1, 2024, or later, invites applications for a research project focused on nanomaterials (photo)synthesis, characterization, and their application in (photo)catalysis, water treatment, and recycling. The candidate will work under the supervision of Associate Prof Nina Lock and Assistant Prof Jonathan Quinson, gaining expertise in Green Chemistry, nanomaterial synthesis, and applications in sustainable technologies.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant field, such as Chemistry / Nanomaterials-Nanoscience / Chemical Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Interest in experimental research.
  • Experience with synthesis and (nano)materials characterization.
  • Creativity combined with a sound academic attitude.
  • Independence in managing projects and teamwork abilities.

Job Description:

PhD Position in Nanomaterials (Photo)Synthesis, Characterization, Application in (Photo) Catalysis / Water Treatment and Recycling

The PhD candidate will:

  • Explore photoinduced synthesis, use, and recycling of nanomaterials, specifically hybrid gold-bismuth oxyhalides.
  • Develop a model system using benign chemicals and mild processes.
  • Investigate the effect of gold amount and its introduction in bismuth oxyhalide structures for improved properties.
  • Apply developed materials in water treatment and catalysis, with relevance to broader research areas.
