PhD Position in Nephropathology: A unique opportunity is available for a PhD candidate in the Nephropathology Department at the University Hospital Erlangen, focusing on innovative biofabrication strategies for vascularized heart substitute tissues.

Designation

PhD Position (m/f/d), 65% part-time, fixed-term for 36 months.

Research Area

  • Biofabrication of vascularized functional human heart ventricle model
  • Use of hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells
  • Development of 3D printing technologies and microfluidic systems

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Diploma or Master’s degree in Tissue Engineering, Material Science, Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Medicine, or equivalent
  • Experience in hiPSC culture, tissue engineering/biofabrication, microfluidics, and publishing
  • English proficiency is required; German language skills are beneficial but not necessary
  • Motivated and reliable with the ability to work in a team

Description

The successful candidate will join a DFG-funded consortium focusing on advanced biofabrication techniques. Responsibilities include:

  1. Optimizing materials for enhanced vascularization
  2. Developing 3D printing methods for human heart ventricle models
  3. Establishing microfluidic systems for testing bioinks
  4. Analyzing the functionality of the ventricle model

The position is part of the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio CRC/TRR 225, which aims to innovate biofabrication strategies to reduce animal testing and enhance regenerative medicine.
