Research Area

Biocatalytic depolymerization of biopolymers for recycling and biodegradation.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Life Sciences and Technology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in cloning in microbiology and/or the expression, purification, and characterization of biocatalysts.
  • Strong interest in enzyme structure-function relationships.
  • Proficiency in English and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
  • Strong analytical thinking and data analysis capabilities.

Job Description

As a PhD student within the ABEL consortium and at the University of Leiden, you will:

  • Develop innovative biotechnological solutions for recycling and biodegradation of biopolymers.
  • Publish high-quality scientific articles and contribute to project reports.
  • Actively participate in consortium meetings, workshops, and knowledge exchange activities.
  • Supervise BSc and MSc students, contributing to the academic life of the Macromolecular Biochemistry group.
