PhD Position in Plant Regeneration: A fully funded PhD position in plant regeneration is available in Professor Charles Melnyk’s group at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala, Sweden. The research focuses on understanding how plants regenerate tissues and exchange genetic information at the graft junction.

Designation:
PhD Position

Research Area:
Plant Regeneration, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microscopy, and Cell Wall Biology

Location:
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree or four years of university-level education, including one year at the MSc level
  • Prior experience in genetics, plants, transcriptomics, microscopy, and molecular biology is advantageous
  • Strong initiative, creativity, and independent thinking
  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written scientific English
  • Ability to conduct independent research, take initiative, and collaborate well with other scientists and students

Job Description:
The selected PhD candidate will work on exploring the molecular and cellular events occurring at the Arabidopsis graft junction during tissue fusion. The project will employ methods in molecular biology, confocal microscopy, and cell wall biology to gain insights into cell fusion and cell wall modifications. Results from this project will contribute to developing robust systems for plant hybrid formation. The position is fully funded for four years by a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council.

How to Apply:
