Eligibility/Qualification

To be eligible for the PhD position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A completed degree at the second-cycle level or equivalent qualifications (at least 240 ECTS credits, including 60 ECTS at the second-cycle level).
  • A background in relevant fields such as Plant Biology, Agronomy, or Biotechnology.
  • At least 90 ECTS credits relevant to the doctoral thesis project, with a minimum of 30 ECTS in a closely related subject.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid background in cell and molecular biology.
  • Experience with standard molecular and cell biology techniques.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Meritorious Experience:

  • Familiarity with microscopy techniques, particularly confocal microscopy.
  • Experience with model plants like Arabidopsis thaliana.
  • Knowledge in biophysics and plant biochemistry.
  • Skills in computational biology or biological modeling.

Description

The PhD project, titled “Watchers on the Wall,” aims to explore how changes in plant cell walls influence immune responses during pathogen interactions. The successful candidate will:

  • Utilize Brillouin-Raman microscopy for real-time monitoring.
  • Develop a chemo-optogenetic toolkit to manipulate cell wall degrading enzymes.
  • Investigate the link between nanoscale changes in cell wall integrity and plant defense signaling pathways.
