Eligibility/Qualification:
- Hold a master’s degree or equivalent in cheminformatics, bioinformatics, pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, or a related discipline by 30th June 2024.
- Proficiency in structure-based ligand design.
- Basic knowledge of a scripting language.
- Experience with RDKit, RNA structure modeling, or RNA-ligand interactions is advantageous.
- Training in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, biophysical methods, or X-ray crystallography is desirable.
- Strong commitment to research, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and excellent communication skills in English.
Description: This PhD position is part of the project “Paving the way for rational RNA-ligand design,” aimed at expanding the druggable genome by targeting RNA molecules. The project seeks to establish methodologies for designing potent and selective RNA ligands based on the 3D structure of the target. You’ll collaborate closely with other researchers to advance understanding of RNA-ligand interactions, focusing on FMN and TPP riboswitches as model systems for antibiotic drug discovery. The position involves research stays at Uppsala University, Sweden, and requires active participation in the University of Bergen’s PhD program.
