PhD Position in Solar Cell Photophysics: The University of Bern invites applications for a PhD position in solar cell photophysics under the guidance of Prof. Natalie Banerji. This position is part of the SNSF project “Charge Generation and Conductivity in Complex Organic Materials”. The project aims to uncover the mechanisms behind charge generation in organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices using advanced spectroscopic techniques.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Strong interest in physical chemistry and spectroscopy
  • Preferable experience in:
    • Ultrafast laser spectroscopy
    • Photochemistry
    • Organic electronic devices
  • Skills in optical setup construction, data analysis, and programming
  • Independent and solution-driven work attitude
  • Excellent communication and social skills
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Willingness to travel for conferences and research stays

Job Description

  • Investigate OPV blends, non-fullerene acceptor films, and donor-acceptor composites
  • Perform device characterization and ultrafast spectroscopic techniques such as transient absorption and time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy
  • Develop a deep understanding of photocurrent generation mechanisms
  • Collaborate within an international network of researchers
  • Contribute to an innovative, multidisciplinary research environment
