Study Area:
The utilization of enzymes as powerful catalysts for a sustainable and atom-efficient production of relevant targets.
Scholarship Description:
This project aims to provide a deeper insight and understanding on crucial properties of enzymes, particularly concerning enzyme stability in the presence of solvents and other organic compounds, and its challenges and ideally how to address them. Wet lab techniques will be employed to identify basic aspects of enzyme (de)stabilization, aiming to design more robust biocatalysts and establish general rules to predict the influence of organic co-solvents on enzyme stability.
Eligibility:
The ideal candidate should have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma from a recognized University in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or related fields. Research experiences in areas including biocatalysis, biochemistry, structural biology, enzymology, molecular biology, instrumental analytics (HPLC, GC, NMR, MS etc.), and bioinformatics are desirable. Candidates should enjoy working in an international interdisciplinary environment.
