PhD Position in Thermoset 3D Printing: The University of Maine, specifically the Materials Engineering And Nanosensor (MEAN) Laboratory and the Advanced Structures & Composites Center (ASCC), is seeking a fully funded PhD researcher in the field of Thermoset 3D Printing. This position is open to prospective students from chemical engineering or material science backgrounds and offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research while being part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team. The research will be focused on experimental materials for composite structures, including thermoset and bio-based materials in the field of 3D printing.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0/4.0 or a minimum graduate GPA of 35/40
  • Proficient in English communication skills (both written and oral)
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical engineering, material science/engineering, chemistry, polymer science/engineering, physics, or a closely related field
  • Experience in experimental materials or composites research
  • Experimental experience with thermoset materials, preferably bio-based, and 3D printing
  • Preferred: Applicants from underrepresented groups in STEM

Job Description:

  • Conduct advanced research in thermoset 3D printing and composite materials
  • Work within the MEAN Laboratory and ASCC
  • Contribute to experimental design, testing, and development of new materials
  • Collaborate with faculty and researchers in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Participate in publications and presentations at conferences and academic meetings
  • Research stipend of $2,600 per month (with an increase of $1,000 after passing the candidacy exam)
  • Full tuition waiver for up to 9 graduate credits per semester (and summer, if applicable)
  • Health insurance coverage for graduate assistants
