Summary The University Hospital of Cologne is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position within the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center (CRC 1530). Eligibility/Qualification
- Education: Completed university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field.
- Technical Background: Previous training and hands-on laboratory experience in molecular genetics, cellular biology, and immunological techniques. Experience with animal experimentation (murine models) and basic computational skills are desirable.
- Domain Knowledge: Solid foundational understanding of immunology and the molecular mechanisms underlying oncology.
- Language & Soft Skills: Proficiency in English (spoken and written), high motivation, curiosity for translational science, strong communication/organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
Job Description
- Project Scope: Elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of the CLL microenvironment by perturbing signaling pathways between supportive niche cells and leukemic B cells.
- Key Tasks:
- Perform cell biological, molecular genetics, and immunological assays on primary patient CLL samples, preclinical in vitro cultures, and murine in vivo models.
- Implement novel spatial technologies and analyze clinical correlatives.
- Handle data analysis, visualization, documentation, and oral presentation of findings.
- Collaborate closely with clinical and computational research partners across the CRC 1530 consortium.
- Employment Terms: TV-L EG 13 (38.5 h/week, 100% or eligible for part-time staffing), fixed-term contract until December 31, 2029 (according to WissZeitVG). Includes company pension schemes and access to advanced institutional training programs.
