PhD Position in Tree-Microbe Interactions, University of Göttingen, Germany

Postdoctoral Researcher - Germany

PhD Position in Tree-Microbe Interactions: The University of Göttingen is offering a fully-funded PhD position to investigate tree-derived defense metabolites and their influence on microbial communities. This opportunity is aimed at candidates with a strong academic background in plant biology or related fields and a keen interest in tree-microbe interactions.

Designation

PhD Candidate in Tree-Microbe Interactions

Research Area

  • Forest Pathology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Plant Biochemistry

Location

University of Göttingen, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Plant Biology, Forest Sciences, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience in:
  • Plant molecular biology (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, cloning)
  • Biochemistry (e.g., metabolomics using LC-MS, extraction and purification of plant metabolites)
  • Bioinformatics (amplicon sequencing/metagenomics) is desirable.
  • Strong interest in tree-microbe interactions, tree defense mechanisms, and forest pathology.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Job Description

The PhD project will explore how tree-derived defense metabolites affect the structure and function of microbial communities, both pathogenic and beneficial. The research will involve:

  • Conducting metabolomics and microbiome profiling.
  • Microbial culturing and bioassays.
  • Utilizing greenhouse and field experiments.

How to Apply
