PhD Position in Virology and Bioinformatics: We are offering an exciting PhD position for a highly motivated individual to join our research team. The successful candidate will engage in an interdisciplinary project focusing on the genomic signatures of enteroviruses and their implications for viral evolution and therapeutic approaches. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in virology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
Designation
PhD Position (m/f/d) 65% TV-L E13 for 3 years
Research Area
Virology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics
Location
Our laboratory is located within a well-equipped BSL-2 facility, offering a safe and supportive work environment.
Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s degree in Virology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field
- Well-organised and highly motivated to learn
- Experience with viruses is favourable
- Demonstrable bioinformatics skills (Python, R, etc.) are essential
- Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is highly favourable
- Willingness to work in both wet and dry lab environments
- Fluency in English (oral and written)
Job Description
The project involves both dry and wet lab work to investigate the genomic signatures that lead to non-homologous recombination in enteroviruses, focusing on defective viral genomes (DVGs) and defective interfering particles (DIs). The candidate will:
- Generate DVGs in the lab and characterise them using classical virology methods, molecular biology, and various NGS platforms (Illumina and Nanopore)
- Analyze a large dataset using bioinformatics tools to gain insights into the genomic features and processes involved
- Develop and enhance existing bioinformatics pipelines
- Explore the possibility of recoding viral genomes as a therapeutic platform
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to attend international conferences and collaborate with other researchers globally.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should apply with the following documents:
