Study Area: Delve into the realm of multi-modal signal processing, focusing on wearable sensors and AI-driven technology. Explore the analysis of signals from IMUs, eye gaze, microphones, EMG, and PPG, contributing to the evolution of user-device interactions. Applications of the developed interactions and detection techniques will be in Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and mobile computing.

Scholarship Description: This PhD position involves a comprehensive exploration of machine learning techniques for signal and time series analysis. Develop methods for machine learning-based signal processing, computational interaction, and technique development for input decoding. Contribute to the state-of-the-art efforts in active learning, transfer learning, and online learning, with applications in Augmented Reality and mobile scenarios.

Eligibility:

  • Written and spoken fluency in English.
  • Excellent master’s degree (MSc., M.Eng. or equivalent) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in signal processing or machine learning for time series.
  • Understanding of multimodal data processing.
  • Optional: Sensing/electrical engineering background for signal acquisition.
  • Optional: Computational Interaction/Bayesian Input Decoding.
  • Optional but useful: Experience in 3D programming (Unity/C#, Unreal Engine, …).
