PhD Position: Nanophotonics: The University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Science invites highly motivated physicists to apply for a PhD position in the interdisciplinary field of nanophotonics and 2D material science. The position is part of the 2D Nanophotonics group within the Institute of Physics and focuses on the project “Excitonic 2D metasurfaces for active multifunctional flat optics.”
PhD Position: Nanophotonics with 2D Quantum Materials
Study Area: Nanophotonics, Physics
Location: University of Amsterdam, Netherlands
Eligibility/Qualification: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in physics and possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English. They should have an eagerness to learn new techniques and be able to work both independently and collaboratively. Previous experience in an optics lab or cleanroom fabrication, proficiency in programming and modeling software, and scientific publications are desirable qualifications.
Description: The PhD project aims to utilize exciton resonances in monolayer 2D semiconductors to actively tune the optical response of metasurfaces. By studying the light-matter interactions of stable excitons in 2D semiconductor materials and coupling them to resonant metasurfaces, the project seeks to develop multifunctional and atomically thin optical elements with electrically tunable optical functions. The successful candidate will conduct fundamental research on the understanding and application of monolayer 2D van der Waals materials in atomically thin optical metasurfaces.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their applications online via the provided link before the closing date of April 21, 2024. Applications must include a detailed curriculum vitae, a motivation letter explaining the candidate’s research experience and interests, a list of scientific publications (if applicable), and the names and email addresses of at least two references. All files, except the CV, should be submitted in a single PDF file.
Last Date: The closing date for applications is April 21, 2024. Complete applications received within the response period will be considered for the position.
