PhD Position on Aquatic Methane, Czech Academy of Sciences

ERC Funded Postdoctoral Positions, Charles University, Czech Republic

PhD Position on Aquatic Methane: An exciting opportunity awaits a motivated PhD student to contribute to the project “Methan-e-scape: Deciphering fluvial methane ebullition patterns and environmental drivers” in collaboration with WasserCluster Lunz (Austria) and the University of Vienna (Austria). The focus is on investigating the spatial variability and drivers of CH4 ebullition in streams to enhance our understanding of the global freshwater CH4 budget.

Summary Table:

Study AreaScholarship Description
Ecology, HydrobiologyInvestigate spatial variability and drivers of CH4 ebullition in streams for a comprehensive CH4 budget study.

Eligibility: Candidates must have an MSc degree in ecology, hydrobiology, or biogeochemistry of inland waters. Strong written and verbal English skills are required. The candidate is expected to conduct fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and analyses, publishing results in scientific journals.

Scholarship Description: The project aims to develop high-resolution, small-scale environmental datasets paired with geomorphic information across stream ecosystems. The PhD focus is on determining key factors driving spatial CH4 ebullition variability in streams and analyzing CH4 fluxes from floodplain forest ecosystems. The position is available for 4 years, starting preferably in August 2024, based at CzechGlobe in Brno, Czech Republic.

Required Documents: Submit a motivation letter and CV, including a list of publications and names of two references, to jobs@czechglobe.cz and Adam Bednařík (bednarik.a@czechglobe.cz). Use “PhD methane” in the email subject.
