Study Area: Embark on a journey to critically explore the design justice methods for community-led design of technologies supporting the quality of life for individuals with chronic illnesses. Focus on the use of AI-driven technology to facilitate sense-making of personal health data and qualitative data sharing in the context of chronic illnesses, particularly those related to hormone imbalances.
Scholarship Description: This PhD position revolves around investigating technology’s role in supporting identity and quality of life for individuals with chronic illnesses, specifically those with hormone imbalances such as thyroid issues. You will engage in design methods involving collaboration with patients, patient associations, and other stakeholders. Explore the use of AI-based solutions, digital twins, or synthetic data providers, and critically assess their impact on personal and social values in individuals’ care journeys.
Eligibility: Candidates with an MSc degree in industrial design, interaction design, human-computer interaction, biomedical engineering, or a related field are invited to apply. A self-directed and motivated learner with a critical stance towards emerging technologies. Effective communication skills and a predisposition to involve diverse partners through participatory and transdisciplinary practices are essential. Proficiency in English is required, and the willingness to learn Dutch is a plus.
