Eligibility/Qualification:
- MSc degree with excellent grades in computer science or similar, with a focus on cybersecurity and/or artificial intelligence
- Strong background in artificial intelligence and/or cybersecurity
- Proficiency in UNIX/Linux systems and ability to code in Python using sklearn and tensorflow
- Demonstrated interest in the domain of cybersecurity and explainability
- Prior industrial experience in an incident response role and experience in writing scientific papers are advantageous
- Proficiency in English
Job Description:
The PhD candidate will be involved in fundamental research and exploration of various learning paradigms to develop actionable explanations from patterns discovered in large volumes of observable data, such as intrusion alerts and network & system logs. The candidate will evaluate explainable ML algorithms under closed-world and open-world settings, including setting up a testbed for intrusion alert datasets and deploying algorithms in real SOC environments. The candidate will work within the stimulating and supportive research environment of the Semantics, Cybersecurity, and Services (SCS) group at the University of Twente, with opportunities for internships and collaboration with industry partners under the TUCCR initiative.
