PhD Position on Lung Models: A PhD position is available for a project titled “3D In vitro lung models: Simulating the breathing effect thanks to a multifunctional bioreactor”. This research will be conducted jointly at CIC biomaGUNE and Leartiker under the supervision of Dr. Dorleta Jimenez de Aberasturi and Dr. Ane Miren Zaldua. The focus of the project is to develop novel human 3D in vitro lung models using bioengineered tissues and a customized bioreactor to mimic realistic breathing motions.

Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related fields.
- Desirable experience in 3D printing, bioreactor design, materials synthesis, 3D in vitro models, and/or cell culture.
- Interest in multidisciplinary work and motivation to learn from diverse scientific areas.
- Ability to work in an international environment.
- Good interpersonal skills and proficiency in written and oral English communication.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be involved in the fabrication of 3D in vitro lung models. This includes:
- Manufacturing fully functional tissues using hybrid photocurable bioresins combined with bioprinting techniques.
- Designing and developing a bioreactor to simulate breathing motions and forces experienced by cells.
- Defining mechanical stimulation protocols and monitoring tissue growth.
- Conducting mechanoadaptative cell marker studies to achieve realistic 3D models.
- Validating the 3D models as drug testing platforms.
