PhD Position on Matching Algorithms: The University of Twente is seeking an enthusiastic and open-minded PhD researcher to develop knowledge representation and reasoning techniques for the inclusive employment of workers with disabilities. This research is part of the interdisciplinary project “Don’t Forget the Forgotten! Towards a Platform-Based Approach for Sustainable Employment of Workers with a Disability,” funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). The project aims to foster sustainable employment for workers with disabilities through technological and social innovations.

Scholarship Description

This fully-funded, 4-year PhD research position focuses on developing computational models that represent the priorities of disabled workers and their employers for AI-supported matchmaking. The project aims to create novel knowledge representations and matching algorithms to improve the person-environment fit and sustainable employment for workers with disabilities. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic team and receive mentorship from experienced international scholars.


  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, artificial intelligence, information systems, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in English (C1; above IELTS 7 or equivalent).
  • Interest and some experience in knowledge representation, reasoning, logic and formal methods, knowledge engineering, conceptual modeling, or requirements engineering.
  • Experience or interest in qualitative and quantitative empirical research with vulnerable and marginalized groups.
  • Good communication, conceptual, and analytical skills.
  • Interest in multidisciplinary environments and societal impact.
