Research Area

Investigate and develop a molten salt battery system using sodium chloride and recycled aluminum, focusing on the electrochemical, mechanical, and thermal performance of the battery components.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, applied physics, or a related field.
  • Strong motivation for experimental research & development.
  • Experience or willingness to learn various analytical techniques (SEM-EDX, XRD, Raman).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Fluent in English.

Description

As a PhD researcher, you will work closely with Exergy Storage and the CPM research group to:

  • Probing the NaAlCl4 electrolyte chemistry using in situ Raman spectroscopy.
  • Investigate spatially resolved compositional changes during charging/discharging.
  • Study bi-directional Na+ transport, interfacial phenomena, and performance degradation.
  • Collaborate with a postdoctoral researcher for data modeling, aiming for significant innovations in battery capacity and discharge durations.
