Eligibility/Qualification
To be eligible for this position, you must have:
- A Master’s degree (or be close to completing one) in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computational Science, or a closely related field.
- A strong background in numerical methods, scientific computing, computational physics, or quantum computing.
- Excellent programming skills in Python and/or C++. Experience with scientific software development is considered an advantage.
- An interest in quantum algorithms and a motivation to contribute to emerging research areas.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
- Good communication skills and an excellent command of written and spoken English.
Job Description
Designing the next generation of aircraft, spacecraft, and propulsion systems requires highly accurate and computationally demanding numerical simulations. While Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is heavily used, many problems—like high-fidelity flow simulations and uncertainty quantification—exceed the capabilities of today’s supercomputers.
In this PhD project, you will:
- Help develop the foundations of Quantum Computational Fluid Dynamics (Quantum CFD).
- Investigate how fluid dynamics can be simulated on quantum computers by designing novel quantum algorithms.
- Implement software and evaluate its performance on quantum computer simulators and potentially real-world quantum computers.
- Work closely with TU Delft and IHI Corporation (a leading engineering company in Japan) to contribute to research at the intersection of fundamental science and future industrial aerospace applications.
