PhD Position: Quantum Materials: The Universität zu Köln invites applications for a PhD position in non-equilibrium physics within the Institute of Physics II. This position is part of the Collective Research Center Control and Dynamics of Quantum Materials (CRC1238) and focuses on studying nonlinear dynamics in quantum magnets using two-dimensional THz spectroscopy techniques.
Study Area: Non-equilibrium physics in quantum materials
Location: Universität zu Köln, Cologne, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification: Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Master’s degree in physics, applied optics, or materials science.
- Proficiency in ultrafast lasers and time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy.
- Solid background in condensed matter physics.
- Experience with advanced data analysis and interpretation.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, MATLAB, Labview, and Origin is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
Description: The selected candidate will work within the optical condensed matter science group at the Institute of Physics II. The PhD project aims to investigate the steady state and non-equilibrium physics of quantum magnets using cutting-edge two-dimensional THz spectroscopy techniques. Responsibilities include conducting research, presenting findings at seminars and conferences, publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, and participating in training courses and events of CRC1238. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in teaching and supervising bachelor and master students.
