PhD Position: Recovery Mechanisms: A challenging PhD position is available within the Clinical Neurophysiology (CNPH) group to investigate the mechanisms of neuronal stress and recovery in the ischemic penumbra. The project, titled “SYNERGY: Mechanisms of Neuronal Stress and Recovery,” aims to understand how metabolic stress affects neuronal network function and how recovery can be enhanced.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Motivated, creative, and technically skilled candidate.
  • Master’s degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with in-vitro techniques (neuronal or stem-cell culture, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, or electrophysiology).
  • Technical affinity and interest in improving experimental setups.
  • Basic programming or data-analysis skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R).
  • Strong communication skills in English.

Description:

The PhD candidate will design and perform in-vitro experiments using MEA electrophysiology, live-cell imaging, and related techniques. The research will involve studying neuronal failure and recovery after metabolic stress in rodent and human iPSC-derived cultures, and evaluating potential recovery-enhancing interventions. The candidate will also refine the experimental setup for stable long-term measurements, analyze large-scale electrophysiological and imaging data, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
