Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Qualification: An above-average Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in chemical reaction engineering, heat and mass transfer, and/or mathematical modeling of chemical reactors.
  • Software & Tools: Experience with scientific software and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics, or comparable tools) is desirable.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English skills; good knowledge of German is an advantage.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Analytical, structured, and independent working style, strong teamwork capabilities, and an interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment with industry partners.

Scholarship / Position Description

The successful candidate will join the “Chemical Energy Storage” group to work on an applied research project developing a novel, scalable methanol reformer topology for hydrogen production in HT-PEM fuel cell systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement mathematical models describing coupled reaction kinetics, heat transfer, and mass transport in methanol reforming.
  • Conduct steady-state and dynamic simulations of reactor systems, specifically optimizing start-up behavior and load changes.
  • Model, evaluate, and optimize reactor topologies and heat integration concepts.
  • Perform parameter studies and numerical optimizations to identify optimal reactor geometries and operating parameters.
  • Evaluate experimental data and validate reactor models and concepts alongside project and industry partners.
  • Prepare, present, and publish scientific findings in international journals and conferences.
