Description

This PhD project aims to innovate in the field of sustainable and energy-resilient manufacturing. TU Delft is looking for a motivated researcher who can help develop an integrated decision-support system for energy-efficient manufacturing. The candidate will apply advanced systems engineering methodologies to improve energy consumption, comply with EU sustainability regulations, and enhance operational resilience.

Research Goals:

  1. Identify Industrial Use Cases:
  • Examine existing sustainability regulations and define reconfiguration strategies based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  1. Develop Models:
  • Analyze drivers of change (regulations, costs, and technology), model architectural interactions, and address uncertainties using systems engineering tools.
  1. Design Monitoring Infrastructure:
  • Build a data layer that integrates factory-level data with external factors such as regulations and environmental data.
  1. Create Decision-Support Frameworks:
  • Enable real-time and strategic planning for energy management through advanced tools.

Teaching Component:

While the primary focus is research, the PhD trajectory may include up to 20% teaching activities such as mentoring BSc and MSc students, supervising labs/workgroups, or assisting in courses.

Employment Conditions:

  • Duration: 4 years (two employment contracts: initial 1.5 years, followed by 2.5 years subject to performance evaluation).
  • Salary (Monthly):
  • Year 1: €2,901
  • Year 4: €3,707
  • Benefits:
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Compensation packages, including discounts on health insurance and monthly work costs contribution
  • Relocation support: TU Delft assists in settling down in the Netherlands (e.g., finding housing, social integration, dual career program for partners, etc.)
  • Graduate School: Enrollment in the TU Delft Doctoral Education Programme for skill development in research and discipline-related areas.

How to Apply

Candidates must submit the following documents online:

  1. A CV, detailing educational background, research experience, and other relevant information.
  2. A motivational letter, outlining your interest in the position and how your skills align with the objectives of the project.

Applications submitted via email or post will not be accepted.
