Scholarship Description

The scholarships are available for excellent candidates with a strong interest in interdisciplinary work, focusing on projects that address complex biological phenomena using methods from statistical physics and applied mathematics. The projects include:

  1. Cell-Matrix Interactions in Neuronal Development: Investigating how neurons interact with the extracellular matrix to influence brain development and function.
  2. Biophysics of Helminth-Host Interactions: Exploring the mechanical forces used by helminth parasites to navigate host tissues and the immune responses involved.
  3. Novel Mechanisms of Autoinflammation and Autoimmunity: Studying how immune responses are affected by naturally occurring immunomodulating molecules and their role in systemic diseases such as psoriasis.

Eligibility

Candidates must have:

  • A strong background in theoretical, statistical, mathematical, or bio-physics, or applied mathematics and computer science.
  • A keen interest in interdisciplinary research combining biology, physics, and medicine.
  • Excellent academic records and research potential.

Required Documents

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • List of publications
  • At least two reference letters

How to Apply

Applicants should send their cover letter, curriculum vitae, and list of publications as a single PDF file via email. Reference letters should also be arranged to be sent to Prof. Vasily Zaburdaev at vasily.zaburdaev@fau.de.
