PhD Positions at Ghent University: Ghent University (UGent) is offering two exciting PhD positions within the COFLIGHT project in the Department of Chemistry, focusing on advanced optical spectroscopy of covalent organic frameworks (COFs). The positions are hosted in the PCN/NOLIMITS team and provide opportunities to work with a multidisciplinary research network across Belgian universities, combining synthesis, spectroscopy, and catalytic testing.

Study Area

  • Time-Resolved Infrared and Terahertz Spectroscopy: Investigating the photo-cycle in COFs, focusing on optical pump-THz probe setups to study structural changes and carrier transport at ultrafast timescales.
  • Ultrafast Visible Light Spectroscopy: Extending time resolution and enabling 2D spectroscopy to track electronic excitations in COFs, unraveling fast processes like energy relaxation and charge separation.

Scholarship Description

  • Funding Duration: 12 months (initial), extendable to a maximum of 48 months upon positive evaluation.
  • Salary: Competitive doctoral fellowship based on family status and seniority. Tax-free under specific regulations.

Eligibility

  • Academic Background: Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Photonics, or equivalent.
  • Technical Skills:
    • For Topic 1: Experience with THz optical setups and Python coding preferred.
    • For Topic 2: Background in laser spectroscopy or programming (Python) is highly recommended.
  • General: Strong motivation, relevant expertise, and interest in advanced spectroscopy techniques.
