PhD Positions at Max Planck Institute: The Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MPI CBS) in Leipzig, Germany, is offering two fully funded PhD positions within the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Research and Development Group, led by Professor Harald Möller. The projects will explore advanced MRI techniques to enhance understanding of brain processes and imaging contrasts.
PhD Positions at Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MPI CBS)
Designation
PhD Researcher (m/f/d)
Research Area
- Biophysical mechanisms of MRI contrast
- Metabolism and neurovascular coupling in activation and deactivation
Location
Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MPI CBS), Leipzig, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s (or equivalent) degree in physics, physical chemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming (e.g., C++, Matlab, Python).
- Experience in NMR or MRI is advantageous but not mandatory.
Job Description
Two specific research projects are available:
- MRI Contrast Project: Investigates biophysical mechanisms of MRI contrast by examining how tissue characterization varies with object orientation in a magnetic field, aiming to derive more precise information on tissue microstructure.
- Metabolism and Neurovascular Coupling Project: Focuses on understanding neuroenergetics through cerebral blood flow, volume, and metabolic changes, examining the differences in activation and deactivation of brain areas.
Candidates will benefit from the institute’s world-class facilities, including access to five MR scanners, notably a 3T Connectom and a 7T Terra.X.
